The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime. ~ Babe Ruth
That simple philosophy is the basis on which Slightly Bent Racing was formed. Starting off as just a group of racers helping each other pit at the tracks, we quickly began discussing the idea of officially banding together. The 2012 GNCC race at Loretta Lynn’s ranch played a pivotal role in determining the direction of this new team. As discussions continued we thought, “What is the one thing we all have in common?”. Well, as amateur racers, we all have to figure out ways just to make it to a race, we all share the same passion for cross country ATV racing, and of course, we all leave the race with something on the machine damaged or at least “Slightly Bent”. We have the name taken care of. Now what do we do? We move on the team’s core values.
That particular race just so happened to be the deciding factor in a class championship for one of our teams original members. The rider battled it out for 2 hours and with a little less than mile until the finish line, a quick and difficult decision was made to refuse the rider a stop for much needed fuel. Now, sweating profusely and awaiting the results of our decision, the rider returned successful……………and ran out of gas!! As the celebrations came to an end, a bond was formed among the now Slightly Bent Racing team along with a sense of trust. Trusting that no matter what the outcome, each rider has the best interest of the team in mind.
Professionalism and sportsmanship are at the forefront of this race team. Whether it’s representing a current sponsor or representing the team itself, each member will always conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism on and off the track. And don’t be surprised to find one of our riders walking the line before his or her race wishing competitors a good ride or congratulating those who came out on top.
Cross country ATV racing is our passion and where we got our start, but the sky is the limit for SBR. Discussions are already being had regarding a UTV campaign and even some desert racing. Baja anyone? The team will continue to participate in charitable and community based events as well as mentor our younger riders. We can be found on the various social networking sites, and are continually adding pictures and videos to help illustrate what exactly it is we do on weekends!!
